The Levy Medical and Health Center was donated in 1963 by the Harrisville Company in honor of June and Austine T. Levy who started the Hatchet Bay Plantation. There is a resident nurse at the clinic and there is a Doctor and Dentist who are stationed in the central Eleuthera district.

ZNS TV (Channel 13) is on the air. Programming for Channel 13 is selected by the Broadcasting Corp. of The Bahamas to serve the national interest. In addition, cable TV is available in the Eleuthera, Harbour Island and Spanish Wells areas with both basic and premium channels.

Eleuthera in
particular has
many churches
scattered
throughout the
various
townships.

In fact the
name Eleuthera
means freedom and was so named when a band of pilgrims came here searching for religious freedom around 1647 and found this island to be the ideal place to worship God as they saw fit.

They settled here and that group, 'The Eleutheran Adventurers' is credited as being the first settlers of the island as we know it today. Services are held every Sunday morning and Sunday evening in some churches. Mid-week services are also a common practice.
